ModeratorThe 120″ chute can do 58 pounds at 15 ft/sec. If you want to go slower, we need to upsize the parachute. The parachute is ~8 yards of fabric. I’m guessing the parachute would be between 3-4 pounds. I would say that you try and give as much room as possible for the parachutes – much easier to deal with more room and less chute than trying to stuff one in and increase failure chances.
If you want to go with something in the 10fps range we could do a 196″ parachue. That one is ~17 yards of fabric. It would weigh between 5 -6 pounds.
For either of them I’ll need a good month to get them made. Once we decide it would be awesome if I could come down and lay out all the material flat, cut it and hem it together there where there is room to lay it all out flat.

Cool, I’ll have a confirmation on weight soon .. this month. I’m sure we can clear a space for you at the hanger. It’ll be fun .. we have a real good time down there. Another great group of guys .. like w/ the Delta.

ModeratorI’m very time limited this time around – I have a 3 year old who consumes most of my time on the weekends.
Another question – what rail/guidance system are you using? I’m pretty sure I can turn any type of button you guys need.

Warren B. MusselmanModeratorIf you’re using a 1515 rail, I still have several sets of 1515 buttons turned from 304L Stainless Steel. I’d be glad to donate them.

Thanks Warren .. do you know what Doug uses for his rail? I assume it’s 1515. If I end up building my own rail I may have to go Unistrut .. cost issues.
Unfortunately I’m having some complications from my surgery last month and am back out of work. Went to workers comp Dr today and back to the surgeon tomorrow. Hope I’m back in action by the weekend. Things are really starting to come together and it’s really exciting.

I’ve created a couple of T-Shirts on Cafe Press to raise money for the Proton Project. I’ve marked them up from cost by $10, all of which I’ll use on the Proton Project. They’re costing me about $21 each so selling for $31, or so. I have a Delta II and DragonShip shirt and am working on a Titan IV shirt.

Right now CafePress is having a sale and have marked down the shirts and provided a coupon code for further discount. Go to:http://shop.cafepress.com/delta-ii or http://shop.cafepress.com/dragonship and select the shirt. At checkout enter the code “PINCH30” for an additional discount. It drops it to below my cost … not sure how that works, hopefully I still get my profit for the proton. Anyway, not sure how long the sale is or how good the shirts will look .. but they look good online. I ordered a couple and hope to have them this weekend for the Sun build session.

Hey, wait a minute! Is this a rocketry forum or a clothing/attire forum? 🙄
Can we talk about this in the open dialog forum? Next you will be trying to hawk caps that say “Team Proton M” on them, and charm bracelet trinkets for the ladies, and on and on. Saturday nights will have Proton bar-b-ques, and other things. There will probalby even be a “Team Proton” charity golf tournament making all proceeds go to the “Team Proton” charity. Who knows what else is going to be thought up, a bowling tournament, a charity walk, rallies, raffles, etc. I just do not know. It could get overboard real quickly!!! 8)

ParticipantBear: not to pick on you specifically, but………….
Steve has raised less than 1/3rd of the cost of the *motors* so far (and they’re at cost). Then there’s the tubes, wood, fiberglass, paint, etc., etc.
Can’t blame him for trying some other ideas for raising money…
