What kind of a load are you talking about here? Fast? Slow? Moonburner? I vote for a 15 second moonburner, personally 😎

I am working with a few different formulas. But this one will be in the mid range area of burn. Say a 5 second or so burn time. Later this year Im hoping to have my white formula going where I want it. I do plan on some long burn Moonburners as well as a fast blue formula I am doing as well. But for the flight at Mayhem it will be a 5 to 7 second N.

Yes, Sponge Bob will fly on a 76mm central M-2515 (9098 Ns) then air start two 54mm K-877 (2280 Ns) and then air starting two more K877’s for a total of 18218 Ns at MHM research day on Sunday. Also if Nate and I can get it setup, we are going to fly a two stage sugar rocket. This is a scaled down version of Scott Fintel’s two stage O to N that sims to over 75,000 feet.

Mike, should be interesting. I plan on keeping my Research activities at MHM pretty mundane, per James’s recmmendations. This is a showcase weekend, and I gotta agree maybe not the best time to push the envelope with any complex rockets, whether staged, clustered or both times two. I’m assuming you and James have hashed this out. If not, now would be a good time.

While we ARE going for a 35K waiver for MHM and Oktoberfest, please be reminded that Research flights cannont exceed 75% of that waiver – meaning 26250′. Personally, I’d like to see us have a standing 25K waiver and a 50K occasional or call-in…

As I to agree that I wish we could have more for a higher waiver as I do plan on projects that are going to do some good altitudes myself, we may not get that. Trust me I would love a standing 25K with windows to 50K. In fact when I do my MHM flight I will to be on the safe side want to call in for a higher altitude anyhow. beings it should be pushing 18 to 20K. But not all research flights are under the rule of the 75%. That is also change-able via TRA BoD and correct documentation of motor and flight can be approved for more.

Right now I am esctatic and just plain excited for our new bit and addition. Getting Sanctioned Reserach launches has been many years something I have wished for and worked towards. I can remember before I took my 3 year abcense from NCR I was a part of the founding work and the very position of EX/Research then.(now that Position has been Mr Mike Bennett’s and he has done awesome my hats off to you bud!!) It was my goal at that time to get this to its peak as it should be. Now 3 years later and much work here we are. So lets enjoy it and make it right and be part of a group that has many things other groups dont have. Even if we cant get a greater waiver.

I’m ecstatic too. Bigger windows would be great, but as it stands we are in better shape than LDRS this year. There is lots of room to do some great stuff,and maybe in time…. The really high stuff is best suited for the Playa anyway where you can chase it with car, atv or whatever, and where a rocket can often be seen on the ground from a long ways off.

Thanks again to all of those who have worked a long time for this, especially Joe H, whose vision and openmindedness has been a tremendous asset to NCR, and will be again this year as the club tries things on various new fronts.

Nothing against James, but I have been doing ex longer than James has. I started in 2001 right after the Aerotech fire happened. I have over 50 flights on my ex motors and I don’t need to hash anything out with James first before I fly. It seems that people are scared that I am going to come close to or exceed the waiver. Sponge Bob on its best flight with all five motors only sims to 13,700 feet and the two stage since it is a scaled down version of what I described, even its best scenario only goes to 17,000 feet. Since I am clustering motors and have a two stage (which still may not fly) then the only thing is that they get extended further back from the flight line since they are complex rockets. Just because you don’t see me fly at commercial launches doesn’t mean that I don’t fly. I have flown rockets at Balls several years ago and even LDRS last year on the research days.
