slipstick
I got the Ok for Everyone to bring a HP rocket (about 6 ft max). Bring your coolest bird. If we end up without enough room we may put some back in the cars. or leave them by the door. I’ll need help carrying Slipstick III and it will probably stand in two pieces. Be willing to let them lean on a wall or sit on a table.
Isn’t Slipstick III over 6 feet?
Art
Yeah, but that was the exception. I don’t think she knows how tall the ceiling is and was thinking we were going to put the horizontally. I’ve been to that room before as part of a Storagetek technical excellence banquet, so there is plenty of overhead. Like I said if it can’t go together it will sit in two pieces. But if you have something longer and interesting that you want to bring, I would do so. I think this will be a good recruiting tool for the club. I was alos goingto bring the sustainer to my new two stage so they can see what the materials look like naked.

Participantjust got back from the dinner and all i can is, wow! what a great evening – fun to see all the club members, fun to hang out in the CU stadium club, good food, and really cool to hear homer speak, and talk to him a little, and get him to sign our rockets! also cool to see all the interest our rockets generated, especially amoung the many kids there. maybe a few more converts to our hobby? i hope so!
mike, thanks for setting up a table for NCR. i still owe you $35. pm me your address and i’ll mail it to you.
see everyone in two weeks!

Got the booster signed. Mike and Bret grabbed me and said “Let’s get your booster signed.” Homer Hickam was standing near it, Mike talked to him about it. He said, “Sure.” Okay, it doesn’t pay to be shy. Art put plastic over it, so it would last and not rub off. It was really a great evening!

ParticipantPost a picture of the booster Bruce. Everyone should get a look at that. That was a seriously cool event and the fact that he was so nice about signing the rockets made it even better. What a treasure that L3 rocket of yours is now, not that it wasn’t before too 😉
Nice to see all you who were there, and for any who couldn’t make it, I highly recommend trying to see Homer speak if you ever get the chance again. He really was terrific, and not just from a rocketry perspective.

ModeratorI’m jealous guys. I wasn’t able to even discuss going as I had a longtime obligation last night. Wish I could’ve gone.

ParticipantFYI, it’s not too late to hear him, and get a book or rocket signed. He’s giving a talk this evening, I think at Mackey Auditorium. Check the link in Mike’s first post. Probably be a bigger crowd, but well worth the wait to chat him up a little bit. Really a nice and gracious fellow.
Brett, someday we have to go fly some rockets at Cape Colewood w/Quintin and the gang – now that would be cool!
Did anybody get pictures? Like a dope I left my camera at home, then forgot I had my cell phone in my pocket – something would have been better than nothing! Might have to go back tonight just for a photo op.
BTW, when I was standing in line to get my books signed, there was a young girl and her mom in front of me. She was very excited seeing all our rockets and really wanted to build one. It was neat to see that enthusiasm. I gave them details about MHM – hopefully they’ll make it!

Here are some pictures that were sent to me by CU photographer Casey A. Cass/University of Colorado. I’ve asked if he has any more of us. We had a total of 13 NCR members and family there to represent us, and I was able to pass on the club contact info to at least three other families.

I cropped this close up, which reads “To Bruce, a fellow Rocket Boy”

WOW! I was able to talk to a few people, especially a father and son who will most likely be coming to MHM to observe. What Mike set up was really good for the club.

Greg, let ‘er go. Listen, last night was fantastic, far more than I ever imagined. First off, your Type 1 diabetic here would like to apologize to Bret, his parents, Chris, etc. for having my sugar level drop suddenly… although, I did get to eat my dessert before anyone else. 😉 Mike, thanks for getting that Coke for me. Greg, you had the man’s first novel! You did so good!
