ParticipantWell, the PF timer in Excess in Moderation failed, though it was my own fault to some degree. When I turned it on at the pad, I only got a single low tone, then nothing. Not recognizing that as a valid state, I should have pulled it off the pad and rechecked everything, but I slacked and let it go.
After the flight, as I was pulling it apart, I unhooked the first (of 3) ematches and powered up the timer and got the correct tones. As I was already late for my pad manager shift, I left the debug for later.
Any ideas? The matches were in parallel in separate screw terminals (breakout board). I haven’t checked continuity on the removed matches yet.
The bummer was dumping the guts of 6 F24s into a baggie, so I could return all the cases I borrowed, then looking at the landing damage knowing that I might not get to fly it again. 🙁
Must learn more patience and thorough checking.

Ken,
Your welcome to use my case again anytime if you try to fly Excess in Moderation again or any other project. Why their was no airstart I don’t know. I had the same PF Mini 3 timer in the 2.5X Big Daddy and both motors light. The second took a second to come up to pressure but they light.
Patience is definitely you have to have as the projects get more complex.

MikeSModeratorWhat ignitors were You using? In Big Daddy
And What motors were being air started?
I forget.
I see in the instructions, If you are drawing more than 2 amps
the battery drops off to 0. Using a regular 9V.I think that may have been the slight time seperation of the
motors firing. ?????The N6PT can put out up to 20A. Recomended by Perfectflite.
I found one at batteryprice.com for $24.44 including shipping.
I always try to buy with the future in mind.
If anyone can fill Me in. HELP. I know very little of
electrical stuff.June 6, 2008 at 12:41 pm #47791
MikeSModeratorI have also ordered two (6 packs)
Perfectflite suggested using six 2/3 A NiCad cells.
Will light anything out there.Suggested http://www.batterystore.com
They will make a custom pack soldered with
leads. There is a minium order of $30.00. Two packs
came to $36.00. + freightIt is a little weight but for Myself it is worth it for
the peace of mind.I will always have these in my box at a launch.
I will only use them a couple times a year. Any
time anyone need to use, just ask. -
