I have mentioned this to a few people and thought I would pass this idea on to everyone. I do not know if this is the first time this has been suggested, so my apologies if I am duplicating other posts. If you have a handheld Yagi antenna for your radio direction finding, you can get better range out of it by elevating it. When I went to Arrow Antennas in Cheyenne, Tim, the new owner, sold me a seven element Yagi and he made me a special cable with the correct fittings for my antenna to radio that is about twenty feet long. This is important because Tim also has a special bracket where you can attach the handle of the Yagi to something else. In this case the something else that I am using is a painter’s telescoping pole. With my small pole I can stick the antenna up an extra twelve feet. With my bigger pole, I can stick the Yagi up an additional twenty four feet. (I got the longer pole originally to knock the snow out of the tops of my Aspen and Cottonwood trees, which took a terrrible beating from the heavy snow this morning.) Then, if I need to, I can drive around with the pole sticking up through my moon roof or the drivers side window and listen for signal to find my rocket. There may be better ways, but I have not heard about them, yet. Sure I can use the GPS as in my Telemetrum, but for a 18mm or 24 mm rocket, I can use the smaller Adept transmitters, and this is how I track them down when I cannot see them. I hope this helps someone.

They are in Cheyenne so they are close. Arrow Antennas does ship. I bought a 7-element Yagi. They also sold me a clamp to mount on top of my painter’s pole. ( A couple of “U” bolts will work also.) They made me the 20′ cable with the connectors to go from my radio’s antenna port and to the antenna, which were two different connectors. (So no voltage loss through more connectors than I really need)(My long painter’s pole will extend to a 25′ length)Get on the internet, look up their phone number. Give them a call, tell them what you want, get a price, and give them a card number. It took me all of two hours one day and I was practicing that afternoon.
