Atlas Site - Pawnee National Grasslands
Saturday March 6th, 2010
Launch Summary
Regularly scheduled launch. Thanks again to Ken and John Reilly for towage both ways. 7 flyers put up 13 (10 Class One, 3 Class Two) flights before the wind blew in a day early and shut us down. Three more entrants in the Alphabet contest - now nine players including 2009 Spelling Champ John Wilke from 3 Dogs Rocketry. Thanks go out to Chad Moore for stepping in and learning how to LCO and for getting the most flights for the day. Motor usage breaks down as follows: A's=3 B's=3, C's=3, D's=1, H's=3. Waiver and range was active by 9:15 AM but issues with the wind, mud and cold brought us to a halt by noon.
Weather Conditions
Don't ever trust the forecast. Predicted minimal winds and temps in the fifties didn't pan out as a storm system rolled over the the Front Range a day early and brought strong, cold winds from the Northwest. When the calm 2 to 5 mph wisps turned to 15 to 25 mph gushes, it was time to pack it in.
