Launch Summary

Regularly scheduled club launch.  Thanks to Mike Shinn for outstanding Recon work and towing both ways.  Recent snow falls had us push back range set up till Friday morning.  Snotty mud getting in but clearing skies and warmer temps brought about an awesome transformation.  18 flyers put up 55 flights - 30 Class 1 and 25 Class 2 - after we got the range going about 11 AM.  Notable flights include the first of many Spiderman Rocket launches by Jack Wranosky, Ron Dresher's Deltie Thunder Boost Glider flights of 53 and 56 seconds, and Scott's Krestrel window shot to 25,344' on an L935 Imax load.  Flights are listed in a random order and motor usage breaks down as follows: 1/2 A's=5, no A's, 1 B, C's=5, D's=3, E's=5, F's=1, G's=10, H's=8, I's=10, J's=5 no K's, 2 L's.

Weather Conditions

Questions regarding the accessibility to the site, right up until we actually made it in on Friday morning.  Snotty mud but passable for most vehicles.  Late snow storms kept us guessing but the weather cooperated for an awesome weekend.  Clear skies, for the most part, with very gentle breezes, and warming temperatures through the days  - highs in the 50's with lows in the high twenties at night.
Fun watching the snow melt off developing larger and larger patches of damp brown praiire.  Moisture desperately need but probably too late for significant growth of cattle grass.

All launch events will be conducted using nationally approved/accepted range safety practices. The launching of rockets on NFS land is normally prohibited under a Forest Service Region 2 fire regulation. The issuance of NCR’s permit allows launches to take place by exempting the Holder from that regulation for approved launch events only. All launches, other than those conducted by the Holder during approved launch events, are outside the scope of this permit and are prohibited by Forest Service regulations.
