Pawnee Grasslands - North Site
Saturday April 5th, 2003
Launch Summary
The overcast skies kept a lot of rockets waiting on the ground and the storm front moving into Northern Colorado made us shutdown around 11:00am. A few smaller rockets were able to fly below the ceiling. A break in the clouds gave Ken Mizoi and Jason Gimbel a chance to fly their awesome 10" diameter scale Hermes on an Animal Motor Works K600. With all carbon fiber construction, diamond airfoil fins, and a handcrafted nosecone that by itself stands 6 feet, this rocket presents a great profile and a beautiful boost. A failed deployment charge brought it to an untimely demise, striking a nearby planet at a high velocity.
Weather Conditions
Wintery clouds hung over the range as we arrived, threatening rain and snow. A cold breeze out of the southeast made winter coats and gloves the stylish attire for the day. Conditions deteriorated by late morning as rain and sleet began to fall.
