Bonneville Salt Flats Utah
Friday August 16th, 2002
Launch Summary
A contigent of NCR club members made the 9-12 hour drive over to Wendover Utah and spent 4 days at the Utah Rocket Club's 8th annual Hellfire event. The salt is like no place on earth. Brighter than snow, hard as concrete, and constantly damp from the percolation of gound water. Eric Parsons helped his son Kyle and Art Hoag fly their large scale Jayhawk, first on a pair of J360's then a second attempt on a pair of K670 Green Gorilla's (only one lit and it arched over, but the electronics kicked in a saved it). Jon Skuba set a new personal best altitude (11,988 AGL) with the explosive launch of his Morning Star II. He also set a new club D altitude record at 2268.
Weather Conditions
Cool mornings transitioned into blistering heat around lunchtime, followed by a mid-afternoon heatwave. Late afternoon brought the sun around to the uncharred side of everyone, just to make sure we were cooked evenly.
